Mayors claim that the statutes of local elected officials should be equivalent to those of political office holders

Praia, Jul 30 (Inforpress) – The National Association of Municipalities of Cabo Verde (ANMCV) claims that the statutes of local elected officials should be equivalent to political office holders and positions, in order to compensate for the “tough mission of municipal offices”.
This position was defended this morning by the president of ANMCV, at the culmination of the 8th Ordinary Meeting of the General Council of the National Association of Cabo Verdean Municipalities (ANMCV), held by videoconference, involving the mayors of the country’s and municipal assemblies representatives.
At the meeting, which served to discuss and approve “important issues” regarding the functioning of the association, Manuel de Pina, also the mayor of Ribeira Grande de Santiago, who is preparing to hand over the portfolio to his successor, claimed that “the mayor mission is tough ”and “demands a lot from its representatives”, as guardian of the citizens, in a country of scarce natural resources, where one lives with daily difficulties of poverty, like Cabo Verde.
Manuel de Pina clarified that the “effective partnership” established between the central government and the municipalities facilitated local development.
