Accra, July 21, GNA – Ghana’s leading long-distance athlete, William Amponsah, will miss the maiden edition of the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon, scheduled for July 30, 2022.

Amponsah, who has dominated marathons in Ghana, would represent Ghana at the 22nd Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The 22-year-old runner was part of Ghana’s first athlete contingent who departed for the United Kingdom ahead of the Games scheduled for July 28 to August 8, 2022.

Amponsah, who holds the National Record in 5000m and 10,000m, would compete for the first time at the Commonwealth Games in various events.

Amponsah has in the last three years won the Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon, the Asante Akyem Marathon, the Millenium Marathon, and the Sekondi-Takoradi Marathon.

His absence would pave way for a new face to emerge in the 21-kilometer race in Ghana.
