Accra, Aug. 15, GNA—Mr Francis Aboagye, a Board Member of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, has called on parents to take active interest in the education of their children to enable them to become useful citizens in future and contribute to national development.
He said some parents shirk their responsibiliy of providing for the needs of their wards, contributing to the poor performance of their children.
Mr Aboagye made the call at the Graduation, Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the St. Andy’s Preparatory School at Ashiyie, near Adenta in the Greater Accra Region.
He charged teachers to desist from all forms of negative tendencies that may tarnish the image of the teaching profession.
Mr Aboagye said absenteeism, alcoholism and drug abuse on the part of teachers were some of the factors that also contributed to the poor performance of pupils in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations.
The Board Chairman urged the pupils to desist from watching Television and stick to their books at all times to enable them to achieve academic excellence.
He commended the authorities of the school for their educational excellence, which had been their hallmark.
Mr Felix Addo, Director of the school, said the school would continue to offer quality and affordable tuition all times.
Pupils who excelled during the year received prizes from the management of the school.
