Accra, Jan 17, GNA – Twenty-two years old Christian Agyei, house help and suspect in the murder of Mrs Josephine Tandoh Asante, Marketing and Public Relations Manager of the Tema Port, on Thursday appeared before the Tema TDC Magistrate Court.
Agyei, whose plea was not taken for the charge of murder, was remanded into police custody to assist in investigation and would reappear on January 31st.
Inspector Beatrice Ayeh, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant in the case was Mr Amos Apraku, an employee and driver of the murdered Mrs Asante.
Inspector Ayeh added that the deceased was residing at block E of EMEF Estate on the Afienya road together with her husband, 12-year son and the suspect.
The facts indicated that the deceased’s husband traveled to the United Kingdom in December leaving her with the suspect and son.
The court presided over by Mrs Akosua Agyepong, heard that on January 12, this year, Mrs Asante attended a get-together organized by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) at the senior staff club house at Tema Community Six.
At about 23:30 hours, the complainant drove her from the party premises towards her house.
He however alighted at Michel Camp leaving Mrs Asante to drive home herself.
Prosecution indicated that Agyei met his madam upon reaching home and collected a polythene bag from her and returned to his room at the boys’ quarters adding that he could however not tell the time she arrived or whether another person was in her Mercedence Benz saloon car.
The suspect informed investigators that at about 03:30 hours, he and the deceased son heard some unusual sound on the compound and therefore conducted a search but did not find anything and therefore retired to bed.
Prosecution stated however that Agyei noted that he saw a male figure wearing a black t-shirt and a pair of jeans trousers running through the living room and escaped from the main gate.
The facts have it that at about 08:30 hours on January 13, the suspect and the son tried opening Mrs Asante’s door but found it locked and therefore called the complainant.
The complainant, according to the police, found the keys to the house at the entrance of the gate when he went there upon receiving the call and used same to open the deceased’s door and found her in a pool of blood lying supine.
Inspector Ayeh added that investigators who were assigned to the case after a complaint was lodged, collected semen found in her, finger prints and other evidence at the scene.
According to the facts, the investigators found out that the suspect had buried a polythene bag containing 430 cedis and the deceased’s wristwatch behind his room and was therefore apprehended.
Prosecution said body fluids, and figure prints of the suspect would be taken and sent for forensic test.
