Accra, March 25, GNA — Mrs Gloria Amarkie Kudo, La Dadekotopon Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on the youth to participate in the decision-making process and promote national development.
She urged them to desist from acts that would seek to derail the peace and development of the country and urged them to take key participatory roles in the national discourse.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency as part of this year’s Heritage Month, Mrs Kudo said the formation of vigilante groups as a channel of fighting a grievance must not be tolerated as it would lead to the destruction of our efforts.
She said this year’s Heritage Month is being held under the theme: « What can I do for my nation? »
Mrs Kudo urged citizens to be law abiding so as to foster peace and national development adding that over the years, the Commission has embarked on programmes that are aimed at awakening the spirit of patriotism in the citizenry.
Programmes such as the Citizens Week celebration, Project Citizen and other programmes were embarked upon on to inculcate into the citizenry the sense of patriotism, she said.
« NCCE has embarked on programmes in the past that were aimed at ensuring that we respect our elders, we give reverence to national issues and symbols, as well as remind workers of their obligation in the payment of taxes », she said.
Mrs Kudo said the Commission, as part of activities to mark this year’s celebration, was embarking on a social auditing programme that would provide the citizenry with the opportunity to interact with duty bearers in order to enhance accountability and enable them influence their policies.
