Praia, Sep 29 (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister said that the COVID-19 pandemic constitutes the “greatest threat” the humanity faces in this last century and the Small Island States “cannot stand alone to recovery cost”.
“The impact of the pandemic has a profoundly human and humanitarian dimension because it essentially affects people, their lives, their health, families orphaned by loved ones, their livelihood, employment, social inclusion and protection, mobility, leisure and psychological and mental stability ”, emphasized Ulisses Correia e Silva.
The minister, who was speaking at the 75th United Nations General Assembly, this Saturday by videoconference, said that the referred pandemic “further exacerbated the inequality between developed and developing countries”.
For Correia e Silva, few countries in the world have sufficient savings to accommodate the extraordinary costs imposed by the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and, at the same time, to recover and relaunch the economy. The Prime Minister recalled that in more developed countries, such as those in the European Union, a financial package of 750 billion euros was needed to support the Member States.
