Praia, Feb 12 (Inforpress) – Patients who demand health services in Praia denounced, in statements to Inforpress, regarding World Patient Safety Day the “non-compliance” of the Charter of Patients’ Rights and Duties, allegedly due to the “little knowledge” about the Charter.
On the occasion of the anniversary celebrated today, a date instituted by Pope John Paul in liturgical memory of Our Lady of Lourdes (France) and which aims to express the solidarity from the society towards those who suffer, Inforpress was speaking with some patients looking for the health system.
“The Charter, adopted by Cape Verde, highlights the right to health without discrimination, to receive appropriate and dignified care, and an appropriate attitude on the part of health care providers”, recalled Sofia Brazão, who denounces its non-compliance and the alleged discrimination, which she says is a target, whenever she goes to Dr. Agostinho Neto Hospital.
According to Sofia Brazão, because she is visually impaired, the Charter of Patients’ Rights and Duties gives her guarantees that she should receive different treatment, starting with scheduling consultations, clinical analyses amongt others until she is seen by a doctor, without any inappropriate comments to the her physical condition.
