Santo Antão: Grogue producers insist on the creation of the IGAE delegation to strengthen surveillance

Porto Novo, Apr 21 (Inforpress) – The grogue producers in Santo Antão are calling for the opening of a delegation from the Inspectorate-General for Economic Activities (IGAE) on this island to strengthen surveillance, at a time when the period of grogue manufacturing is taking place.
Some producers, approached by Inforpress, denounced the fact there are still “a lot of people” who continue to produce poor quality brandy, due to “lack of supervision”, so they defend “the permanent presence” of IGAE inspectors in that island.
“The lack of supervision has facilitated those who continue to produce brandy without quality, with the use of sugar and other products harmful to people’s health”, warned producer João Ferreira.
This producer acknowledges there has been “some oversight” but “still insufficient” to enforce “the law on grogue be complied with by all”.
