Nairobi, 27/10/2023 (MAP) – Vice-president of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation, Aziz Laarraf, was elected, Friday in Nairobi, president of Zone I (North Africa), during the Elective General Assembly of the African Tennis Confederation.
Laarraf, who was running against the outgoing president, Algerian Nabil Cheriak, received five votes out of six, which reflects the confidence enjoyed by the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation at regional and continental levels.
Laarraf, who was, at the same time, elected vice-president of the African Tennis Confederation, underlined that this election is a recognition of the development of Moroccan tennis over the past ten years, particularly in youth categories, noting that Morocco’s efforts in this area were praised by all the participants at this assembly.
Over the last five years, Morocco has won several championships continentally, he recalled, adding that the result of the vote reflects the interest shown by African countries to the efforts of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation under the presidency of Mr. Fayçal Laraichi.
During this 50th annual assembly, which brought together 37 African Federations, Beninese Jean Claude Talon was elected President of the African Tennis Confederation for the period 2023-2027. Jean Claude Talon, who replaces Tunisian Tarak Cherif, obtained 25 votes compared to 12 for Nelson Botswana’s Amanze from.
