Accra, March 11, GNA – Six students who excelled in the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), from both private and public schools in Agona East, have been given deserving awards.
The best performed BECE candidates three each from private and public schools received an undisclosed amount of money and certificates for their outstanding performance in the last year’s BECE at the 62nd Independence Anniversary celebration parade held at Nsaba in the Central Region.
The public schools are Kwesi Pantsil AME Zion, Agona Namawura SDA and Kwame Ntsiful AEDA Basic Schools whiles two of the three best performing private school candidates are from Swedru International School (SWISS) and the other from Manyland Montessori School.
In all, 36 private and public schools took part in parade attended by Omanhene of Nsaba Traditional Area, Osabarima Bishop Boappiah Afriyie III, Queen mothers, divisional chiefs, fire officers and civil society stakeholders.
Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agona East, said the students gained admission into Holy Child, Mfantseman Girls, Wesley Girls, Mfantsipim, Adisco and Achimota and that the awards were to spur them to study hard.
He said the free Senior High School (SHS) policy has given opportunity to students from poor homes to gain admission into elite’s schools in Cape Coast Accra, Takoradi, Accra and Kumasi.
The Assembly, he said, has given scholarships to over 30 students in tertiary institutions and was also making efforts to build more school structures to create sound environment for effective teaching and learning.
He cautioned the students to abstain from premarital sex which could affect their education and future and congratulated the awardees for their excellence performance.
