Accra, Oct. 16, GNA – The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Moll) with the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) to train young women to successfully transition, after school, to become entrepreneurs.
The partnership between CAMFED and NBSSI also aims at championing the entrepreneurial rights of young women through advocacy and policy engagement.
Under the Moll, which spans 2018 to 2022, CAMFED commits to work with NBSSI to undertake advocacy on gender stereotypes and promote equity for female entrepreneurs.
The specific objectives of the Transition Program are to equip young women, who complete secondary school, with knowledge and skills to make informed decisions on their pathways to successful livelihoods, and connect them to accessible and affordable sources of capital and financial education for business launching and growth.
CAMFED, as part of the collaboration, would share relevant experiences, expertise, available data and best practices with NBSSI to guide interventions.
A statement issued by CAMFED, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra, the two organisations would also develop a work plan to guide their activities, while tapping into resources at both ends to undertake planned programmes.
The establishment of a working partnership with the NBSSI is within the framework of a Transition Program that CAMFED is implementing in partnership, and with funding support, from the Mastercard Foundation.
Dubbed: « Enable young women to transition from school to entrepreneurship, further study and transformative leadership in Ghana », the Transition Program is designed to enable young women to forge innovative pathways for their successful transition from school to a secure position from which to make future choices.
The Program is also designed to demonstrate the positive impact of supporting educated young women during their transition to influence policy towards supporting their transition into adulthood, and empower them to play active roles in local and national development.
« The design of the Program is based on CAMFED’s and the Mastercard Foundation’s shared belief that further education, employment and entrepreneurship are some of the most viable pathways to economic security for the majority of young people, » the statement said.
« Thus, the focus is on creating the enabling environment and promoting access to new resources for young women to put them on sound footing to be able to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
« The goal of the collaborations and partnerships we have developed is to ensure that the interest of our clients, the girls and young women we work for, is adequately served », National Director of CAMFED Ghana, Mr. John Asibi AN, stated at the signing event ».
On her part, the Executive Director of NBSSI, Ms. Kosi Yankey, said NBSSI would support CAMFED to achieve its vision of promoting girls’ education and young women empowerment.
« We have to empower women to take action in the entrepreneurial space to push national development, » she added.
« CAMFED and its partners such as the Mastercard Foundation and NBSSI would work towards SDGs 3 and 4, which are on the attainment of quality education and gender equality respectively.
