Finance Minister Tweah Provides Boxes, Polish To Shoe Shine Boys

Monrovia, Dec. 23 (LINA) -The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) has provided a consignment of shoe shine boxes and shades of polish to shoes shine boys in Monrovia.

According to Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, the materials are intended to identify with shoe shine boys in the informal sector.

Minister Tweah made the presentation to some shoe shine boys around the Ministry of Finance on Friday in Monrovia.

He stated that the US$3 million loan scheme that President George Weah launched recently will take into consideration Liberians who are engaged in businesses such as the shoe shine boys and the likes, to access loans.

He pointed out that the ministry intends to organize the informal sector of petty traders with database to enhance and empower their activities economically.

Minister Tweah stressed that the businesses in the informal sector will go a long way to strengthen the engine of growth in the economy.

He added that the US$3million loan scheme is intended for small Liberian businesses in the 15 counties and government will monitor the loan to ensure it achieves the intended purpose.

He indicated that the shoe boxes and the variety of polish are an initial step by the MFDP to ensure that Liberian petty businesses improve from one level to another.
