Takoradi, Oct. 04, GNA -Food Advancement Ghana, an agro-business pioneered by a group of university graduates have encouraged their colleagues to « kill » unemployment by venturing into agriculture to feed the nation.

« As you can see, we are young people that are passionate about agriculture and we are passionate about making food available for the rest of the country,” Mr Isaac Sarfo Jnr. and his team members Mr. Edmond Amankwa and Lesly Naa Tetteh told the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the Coconut Festival held recently in Takoradi.

The young men graduated from the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and came together to start an agroforestry business by the help of their supervisor, Dr. Erasmus Nartey Tetteh.

Food advancements Ghana, located in the Ashanti (KNUST), Western and Eastern Regions of Ghana deal in the production and sales of coconut seedlings for singular or bulk purchases, rubber seedling production, cashews and mango seedling production as well.

Mr. Safo said the group also offered consultancy services on cultivation, management practices of the coconuts and harvesting.

He reminded the youth that agriculture was not a task for the aged but an enterprise for energetic youth to make a positive difference in their lives.

» Agriculture is something that when you venture into gives you a lot of money and with the youth that are depending on employment from the government or something, you might sit at home for a long time and may not get a job, but when you venture into agriculture, although a bit tedious, if you put in hard work, after the sweat, there is a glory, » Mr. Sarfo added.

The team revealed that agriculture was lucrative but came with hard work and bit of stress which interested youth must be informed about to make the right decisions, adding that hard work does not also kill in anyway and we have been in business since 2019 providing quality solutions to the coconut, rubber, mango and cashew industry.

The team’s   long term focus business was to feed the country through sustainable agronomic practices and climate smart practices as well.

Mr. Isaac Jur Sarfo is currently a candidate for MPhil. Natural Resources and Environmental Governance while Mr. Edmond Amankwah is in MPhil. Agroforestry with Mr. Lesley Nartey Tetteh holding a Bachelor of Science in Renewable Natural Resources.
