Accra, March 27, GNA – Mr. George Lamptey, President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) has appealed to corporate Ghana to support the national amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers in their preparations towards the next Olympic Games in Tokyo, next year.
Mr. Lamptey said the Black Bomber have proven to be among the best on the continent when they went for the Olympic Qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal, where five of them qualified to the semi finals and two qualified to the big Games in Japan, hence deserve the needed support from corporate Ghana.
« With little support we were able to make a lot of progress in the qualifiers. This means we are capable of making a bigger impact if given adequate support, » he added.
Mr. Lamptey thanked the Ghan Olympic Committee (GOC), the Ga Traditional Council and Ga Manste Nii Teiko Tsuru II and Alhaji Inusah for supporting the Black Bombers.
He also expressed appreciation Geodrill Ghana Limited, a mining company for securing the ticket with air tickets for some of the boxers and technical staff who participated in the qualifiers in Senegal.
The GBF president appealed to other companies to support boxing as Ghanaian boxers have proved to be very good and medal hopes.
Two boxers; 19-year-old Samuel Takyi from the Discipline Gym and skipper Sulemanu Tetteh who participated in the 2012 Olympic Games have qualified for the Games in Tokyo.
