Meknes, 27/04/2024 (MAP) – In a recent address at the 16th International Agriculture Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Côte d’Ivoire, Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, lauded Morocco’s remarkable achievements in the agricultural sector, particularly in the realm of irrigation.
Adjoumani emphasized Morocco’s exemplary irrigation systems, which he noted provide vital access to water for even the most disadvantaged farmers. He urged other nations to emulate Morocco’s approach, citing the effectiveness of what he termed the « water highway » in maximizing the utilization of precipitation. Furthermore, Adjoumani commended Morocco’s efforts to strengthen its agricultural sector, highlighting the consolidation of its gains in the field.
During his speech, the Ivorian minister also underscored the robust development partnerships between Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco. He emphasized the mutual commitment shared by the two countries to enhance exchanges of expertise and know-how in agriculture. Notably, he acknowledged the active presence of numerous Moroccan professionals contributing to agricultural development in Côte d’Ivoire.
In response, Mohamed Sadiki, the Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire. He echoed the commitment to promoting African agriculture on the global stage.
The SIAM event has drawn participation from nearly 70 countries, with Spain as the guest of honor, and boasts 1,500 exhibitors. Sadiki also emphasized the event’s focus on innovations in irrigation water management and its impact on agricultural production and economy.
Moreover, Sadiki emphasized the critical role of agricultural cooperatives in driving economic and social development in rural areas. He stressed the need for support to enhance the capacity of these cooperatives, thereby improving the livelihoods of vulnerable populations.
In a joint effort to further agricultural development, Sadiki and Adjoumani agreed on an ambitious work program. This program includes exchanges of experts, visits, and the sharing of best practices aimed at boosting agricultural production and ensuring food sovereignty in both countries.
