Rabat, 13/06/2023 (MAP)- Morocco’s approach to Africa has yielded concrete results not only for the Kingdom, but also for sub-Saharan African countries, Sergio Pimenta, International Finance Corporation (IFC) Regional Vice President for Africa, said on Tuesday in Rabat.

« This approach has created new opportunities for the continent and a new synergy between African countries, which has contributed to Africa’s development », said Pimenta, during a meeting with the press on the objectives and preparations for the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, which Morocco will host in October 2023 in Marrakech.

He noted that the establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will help to multiply opportunities for synergy between African countries.

He also reaffirmed his institution’s support for Morocco’s New Development Model, within the framework of public-private partnerships (PPPs), citing the agreement signed on Monday between the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and IFC to update the national natural gas roadmap.

« IFC’s strategy in Morocco focuses on four key areas to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, namely support for private sector reforms, sustainable and inclusive growth, regional development, and support for the expansion of Moroccan companies in Africa, » he said.
