Police arrest seven in Friday’s clashes at Yendi

Accra, Jan. 12, GNA – Police at Yendi on Friday arrested seven persons in connection with violent clashes witnessed in the area this afternoon.
The clashes left 17 persons with various degrees of injury and they are currently receiving treatment at the Yendi Government Hospital.
There were sporadic gunshots all over the Yendi Township this afternoon when the funeral of Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II was to start.
The streets of Yendi were deserted and journalists, who were in the area to cover the funeral proceedings, took cover at the premises of the Yendi Divisional Police Command.
A police source told Ghana News Agency that calm has been restored to the area this evening adding that those arrested would soon be sent to the court.
Meanwhile, the Andani Royal Family has postponed the performance of the funeral of Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II following the incident.
