President of the Santiago Tourism Association says Covid-19 will have a “negative impact” on the sector

Praia, Mar 18 (Inforpress) – The president of the Santiago Tourism Association (ATS), Eugénio Inocêncio, said today that the pandemic of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) will have a “negative impact” on the sector of the island.
“The impact will be negative, in fact, it is the World Tourism Organization itself that has already publicly admitted that this year there will be a worldwide setback in terms of tourism, that is, the growth rate will be negative”, indicated Eugénio Inocêncio, in statements to Inforpress, adding that Cabo Verde “is no exception”.
However, he is “confident” that, in the coming months, the new coronavirus crisis, at least, in terms of health “will be overcome”.
The president of ATS believes that with the resolution of this public health problem, the economy and tourism will recover, so the country will have to be prepared to “assume the recovery”.
At this moment, he said, the important thing is “to minimize the effects [of the Coronavirus] on public health as much as possible” and, at the same time, “to guarantee companies their survival”.
