Bolgatanga, June 11, GNA – Madam Paulina Patience Abayage, the Upper East Regional Minister, on Monday, paid a visit to some selected Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centres to interact and wish the candidates well in their examination.
The Regional Minister, who was accompanied by Mr Augustine Ayirezang, the Regional Director of Education, Madam Anne Estella Kyee-ebo, the Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education, Mr Joseph Amiyuure, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive among others toured some centres at the Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS) and the Zamse Senior High/Technical School.
Madam Abayage, who wished the candidates the best of luck in their examination, advised them to take the exercise seriously as it formed the foundation of their educational life and their future.
The Regional Minister cautioned the pupils to eschew examination malpractices and undertake independent exercises to avoid cancellation of papers because malpractices had the tendency to ruin and truncate their academic aspirations.
The Regional Director of Education explained that stringent measures were put in place to check and detect examination malpractices during the exercise and added that five teams were formed to monitor the examination centres across the region.
Mr Ayirezang encouraged the candidates to feel confident and do their best to enable them get good aggregates and be placed in their preferred Senior High Schools.
In the Upper East Region, a total of 22,002 registered candidates from 606 schools including one special school, Gbeogo School for Deaf at Tongo in the Talensi District are writing this year’s BECE from June 10 to June 14.
This figure, which, comprised 10,103 males and 11,299 females, represents 3.9 percent increase from last year’s number of candidates of 21,140 who sat for the examination.
According to the Regional Directorate of Education, the Bolgatanga Municipal presented the highest number of candidates of 2,743 while Bolgatanga East District presented the lowest number of candidates of 548.
About 88 centres would be used for the examination across the 15 districts in the region.
