Takoradi, Oct. 22, GNA – Professor John Frank Eshun, the Vice Chancellor of the Takoradi Technical University, has encouraged fresh men and women of the School, to strive for an active learning experience and be critical thinker, creative and innovative in finding solutions to the current social and economic challenges.

They are to also develop a mind of creating employment for themselves at the end of their academics period and work toward it, because no one will guarantee jobs for them after education at the TTU.

The VC was speaking at the Matriculation ceremony to admit 4190 students into the School for the 2018/2019 academic years.

A total of six thousand three hundred and seventeen (6317) applications were received. Out of this number four thousand one hundred and ninety (4,190) were offered admissions to read various programmes.

These include: Non-tertiary, Professional Diploma, Higher National Diplomas, Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology.

Of the intake, 68 per cent of the admitted students are offering Engineering and Technology related programmes and 32 were offering Business related programmes.

Prof. Eshun said the total number of registered fresh students this year was the highest recorded in the history of the University.

« The School also admitted seven international students comprising: three from La Cote d’Ivoire, one from Botswana, one from Cameroon and two from Nigeria.

« The school absorbed nineteen (19) hearing impaired students, who are reading various programmes. In order to facilitate their smooth academic progress, the University has engaged the services of interpreters to help provide academic support for these students.

« The University has also established a Disability Services and Support Unit to coordinate the services/activities being rendered to all disabled students in the University with respect to their special needs.

Professor Eshun said the University was in the process of drafting a fee policy and management would adhere strictly to its implementation.

He reminded the students that the University would not compromise on examination malpractices and culprits would be dismissed outright.

« You will also be required to undertake industrial attachment/training, which forms an integral part of your training. The training has been designed to help you relate theory to practice. You are therefore expected to take it seriously when the time comes, » he said.

The VC urged the students to avoid writing anonymous letters as means to have their concerns addressed adding that « My doors are always opened to you through your SRC leadership and the Dean of Students of Affairs ».

« I do not expect students of this University to do anything that will put the high-earned reputation of TTU in jeopardy. Therefore, in the event of any development that threatens your happiness and continuous stay on campus, do not hesitate to use the channels of communication available to you. Management is also ready to listen to your grievances at any time should the channels of communication fail ».

Professor Eshun also admonished them not to abuse the freedom at their disposal, but to nurtured it and behave responsibly to justify the confidence repose in them by their parents and care givers.

He reminded the students to be security conscious in view of the unsecured nature of our surroundings especially, at night. « Do not keep late nights, do not move alone particularly when it is dark and be mindful of the kind of friends you keep.

« Some of you are seeing the sea for the first time. Please stay away from the sea. Do not go to the beach to swim to endanger your life, » he added.
