MONROVIA, July 28 (LINA) – The famous « Clara Town Field » turned « Clara Town Survivors Sports Park » was the scene of celebrations as residents, mostly children, gathered to celebrate Liberia’s 176th Independence Day anniversary.

The Park, which is one of President Weah’s signature projects under the Sports for Development Initiative, is being implemented across the city by the Presidential Delivery Unit  headed by the Minister of State Without Portfolio; Trokon Kpui.

The euphoria at the Clara Town Survivors Sports Park became vivid as children from all walks of life were seen accompanied by their parents as they made their way to the one and only recreation Sport Park in District #14, Montserrado County.

Liberia Independence celebration is one of the most historical moments for the people and the opening of the Clara town Survivors Sports Park added additional flavor to the celebration for the people of Clara Town and Doe Community as well as adjacent locales.

It can be recalled that on Friday, July 23, 2023, President Weah dedicated the Clara Town Sports Park to the general public for recreational purposes for all Liberians, affording both children and elders the opportunity to interact socially through sports.

The Park consisting of a 90/45 soccer pitch, a modern basketball court, a mini playground and other elements attached significantly contributed to controlling youngsters who left their residences to observe July 26, Independence Day celebration.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) on Wednesday at the modern sports facility in Clara Town, one of the parents, identified as Mamie Doe indicated that the development in Clara Town is one of the reasons why the kids are smiling and overjoyed for the country’s independence anniversary.

She pointed out the importance of the facility, citing that it brings excitement to the children whose primary focus is to be at a place where they would have chance to play games and interact with one another socially.

“I brought my children to see this place because during the opening ceremony, the place was crowded and I was unable to come. So, today, my children and I are here to see what George Weah has done and to also tell him that we are thankful to be here sitting without seeing trash and other filth,” the proud parent said.

Others expressed that with such a facility, the young people of the district will no longer go far away from home during holidays which, according to them, will help prevent the kids from harm’s way.

Mamie Weah, a mother of three girls and a prominent resident of Clara Town, explained that the development is beyond politics and as such citizens should show gratitude.

She disclosed that there are lots of prominent people in society who hail from slums and rural settlements but they are yet to show tangible results as the current Liberian leader is giving back to his people and communities.

“Today, President Weah has been exemplified as a kind-hearted politician for coming back to Clara Town and transforming it into a place that would benefit a huge population rather than one group of people, which is commendable,” an elderly mnan pointed out.

He opined that President Weah will forever be remembered in the history of Liberian politics, taking into consideration the level of work he has done in just six years of his first term.

“He has done lots more than any politician in six years, and with the development in Clara Town today, parents are no more worried about taking their children out in search for a place to amuse and entertain them.

“And against this backdrop, President Weah deserves a second term, and District#14 will be no exception to make it a reality.” Madam Mamie Weah said.
