Effia (W/R), June 24, GNA – The Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commence and Industry (STCCI) to promote joint industrial research.
The move forms part of the vision of the two institutions to use applied industrial research to produce competent world-class human resource for the strategic socio-economic development of the country.
The MOU would allow both institutions to collaborate and come out with extra pedagogical innovations to make products of the University relevant to industries.
Reverend Professor John Frank Eshun, the Vice Chancellor of TTU, said the University over the years has advocated strong collaboration with industries through competence based teaching approaches and that the signing of the MOU with STCCI was a dream come true.
The MOU would among other things offer consultancy services to both institutions, exchange of information, documentation, materials and support each other in manpower development.
It would also improve upon industrial liaison and career development services, support the development of standards and conformance system to facilitate trade and business development.

Mr Benjamin Nii Kpani Addy, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of STCCI, prayed for a fruitful collaboration between the university community and the Chamber in line with business growth in the Western Region.
He said, « We from the business angle find this collaboration refreshing because research is one of the key indicators of our business successes and signing this pact with TTU with a well- established Research Centre will help industry development and ensure a more responsive and innovative policies to alleviate the plight of businesses in country, ».
Mr Addy said the current business environment demands such collaborations to merge findings of both institutions to enhance the socio-economic development of the country.
The Deputy CEO said development partners such as Sequa, German Ministry of Economic Corporation and Development and Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, are helping to build the human capacity of the Region and the country as well.
At the signing were; Mr Moses Maclean Abnory, Registrar of the University; Mr Ato Van-Ess, Board Member of STCCI; Dr Emefa Amponsah, COVID-19 Taskforce Chairperson of TTU, and Dr. Emmanuel Baah, the Director of Research and Innovation of TTU.
The STCCI, later donated some PPE to the University Health Centre in the fight against COVID-19 Pandemic.
The items included locally made nose masks, surgical masks N95, hand sanitizers, chlorine and mentilated spirit, bedsheets and pillows, washing machine, liquid soap, disposable sack gowns, tissue papers and disposable gloves.
