Accra, July 05, GNA – Madam Nesrin Bayazit, the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, has commissioned a $4,500 borehole for the Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS), Islamic School in Accra.
The borehole project was jointly commissioned by Madam Bayazit and Brigadier General Solomon Tei Mensah Osabutey, the Deputy Commandant, MATS.
Aside the borehole project, the Turkish Embassy also sponsored the paintings of the MATS Islamic School and the Mosque complex and the construction of the ablution unit of the Mosque, which would be completed in due course.
Madam Bayazit said the commissioning of the project was a testimony to the fact that there was a close and cordial relationship that existed between Ghana and Turkey.
She said the Turkish Embassy was trying to identify the needs of the people and how best to help them since « we offer training and scholarships ».
Mr Mohammed Awwal, the Coordinator of the religious wing of Turkish diplomacy, Human Development Association International (HUDAI), operating in Ghana, said the borehole project would go a long way to ensure regular and constant supply of water to the MATS Mosque and the surrounding communities.
He said HUDAI had from the beginning of the year, completed drilling 35 boreholes and they were expecting to scale it up to 50 before the close of the year.
He also mentioned that since 2017 to date, HUDAI had presented over 41,000 Islamic books to tertiary, secondary and basic education institutions across the country.
Brigadier General Abdulai Issahaku, Director General, International Peace Support Operations (IPSO), on behalf of the Military High Command, expressed their gratitude to the Turkish Embassy for the project.
He urged the Ambassador to visit the Al-Aziz Central Mosque in Burma Camp, where they were putting up a madrasa; to identify areas the Embassy could assist them with where possible.
