Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – The Ghana Alliance for Clean Cook-stove (GHACCO), an NGO, is partnering the Ejisu Municipal Assembly to promote access to clean and affordable cooking stoves for households and institutions.

This is being done under what has been dubbed « Voice for Change (V4C) Partnership Program ».

It ties in with the global effort towards tackling climate change through reduction in household air pollution to protect the environment and the health of the people.

« It is our vision to strengthen and open up opportunities for local actors working in the clean cooking technology and fuel industry as the programme is rolled out », Mr. Michael Kwaku, , Ashanti Regional Deputy Coordinator of the Alliance, said.

He was addressing a stakeholders’ sensitization meeting at Fumesua in the Ejisu Municipality, on the objectives of the programme.

The programme, which ends in 2020, is being implemented with support from the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) and International Food and Policy Research Institute, Denmark.

It is to support the government to achieve its renewable energy goals and deliver the expected outcomes of its climate change policies.

Mr. Kwaku said the Alliance was committed to forging partnerships to stimulate actions and policies that contributed to a vibrant clean cook-stove industry and sustainable utilization of biomass.

They were eager to see that there was a strong political will for promotion of clean energy issues within the medium-term development plans of the municipality.

GHACCO, he said, was implementing the energy component of the ‘V4C’ program in Greater Accra, Volta and Ashanti Regions – to help reduce green-house gas emissions by increasing access to clean cooking and heating.
