Abuja, June 24, 2019 (NAN) Twenty-five handball coaches in the country are currently participating in the International Olympic Solidarity Level 3 Course holding at the Velodrome, Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, Nigeria`s capital.

The scribe of Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Haruna Maigidasanma, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the programme was geared toward updating the coaches on current international best practices and rules.

He said that the HFN hosted programme which started on June0 24 and will end on June 30, was sponsored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in conjunction with the International Handball Federation (IHF).

“It is very fundamental for coaches to be conversant with rules and to be on top of their beat, hence, the reason for this international intensive programme, aimed to enhancing their performance.

“We have 25 coaches from our affiliated state associations that are participating in this intensive International Olympic Solidarity course.

“Yesterday, June 23, was for their arrival and the programme started proper today (Monday), so it’s going to be a very busy week for coaches because there will be theory and practical sessions,” he said.

He added that the IOC/IHF Technical Course was being handled by IHF Instructor, Alireza Habibi from Iran, who arrived in Nigeria on Sunday.

The HFN Secretary said the course was needed to further empower the technical officials and put them in current form to plan for adequate training programmes for players under their supervisions.

Maigidasanma noted that the body would remain committed to organising similar programmes for technical officials as part of effort by the board to bring handball in Nigeria to an enviable state.

“Our achievement in international competitions by national teams are as a result of empowering our coaches, some courses have held this year, this is on and more will come,” he added. (NAN)
