Akwatia (E/R), July 09, GNA – Mr Kwadwo Asare-Banso, the Eastern Regional Accountant of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has urged educational accountants to make timely submission of ledgers and cash books to the regional office for verification to enhance execution of school projects.

He gave the advice when he addressed the members of the Association of Educational Accountants of Senior High Schools of the Akim Oda Zone at a day’s training workshop held at Akwatia in the Eastern Region.

It was attended by about 70 members drawn from 18 Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the six districts of the zone, namely; West Akyem, Kwaebebirim, Birim Central, Birim South, Akyemansa and Denkyembour while the schools include St Francis Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Attafuah SHTS, St Thomas SHTS, Akroso SHS and Akokoaso SHTS.

The participants were taken through the preparation of financial statements, payment vouchers, journals, posting of ledgers, trial balances and final accounts, which had to be done at the end of every month to fast-track processes for onward submission to the headquarters in Accra.

He said the workshop was to build the capacity of the accountants to enable them to adhere strictly to the Public Procurement Act.

Mr Stephen Asante, the Accountant of the Mpraeso SHS and the facilitator of the workshop, called on the accountants to let accuracy prevail in all aspects of their work.

Mr John Adjei Kwarteng, the Akim Oda Zonal Chairman of the Association, expressed gratitude to the organisers of the workshop and said the training programme would help them to be abreast with modern trends in their profession.
