Assomada, Oct 21 (Inforpress) – The majority of drivers from the countryside of Santiago island demonstrated today in front of the bus terminal and paraded through the main streets of the city of Assomada to ask for a full capacity of 15 seats and reduced fees.
The drivers of hiace and other vehicles (Hilux) from the Assomada Bus Terminal, in Santa Catarina, make the route Assomada-Praia / Praia-Assomada and Assomada to the other municipalities in the countryside of Santiago join the Professional Drivers National Union (SINCOP), demand the suspension of taxes, licenses, renewal of licenses and permits.
The claims also include the granting of benefits in order to promote social inclusion for all drivers, suspension of charges for toll and badges, improvement in street pavement at Sucupira (Praia) and normalization of the hiaces’ capacity.
Speaking to Inforpress, the spokesman for the drivers, Edmilson de Jesus Borges, who works at the Assomada-Praia / Praia-Assomada stop, said he did not understand why the Government is increasing rates if they are short of capacity, ie , nine seats instead of 15 as they pay for it.
