Laayoune, 17/11/2022 (MAP) – The Speaker of the Burundian Senate, Emmanuel Sinzohagera, commended on Thursday the socio-economic development dynamic in Morocco’s southern provinces, particularly in Laayoune.

« Laayoune is experiencing a comprehensive development in several sectors including health, education and sports, and this for the welfare of the population, » Sinzohagera told the press, after his visit to socio-economic projects in the city.

This visit was an opportunity to learn about the socio-economic development momentum underway in Laayoune, noted Sinzohagera, who leads a large Burundian parliamentary delegation visiting Morocco, at the invitation of the House of Councillors.

In this context, he said he was « impressed » by the quality of infrastructure and innovative development projects in various fields.

Morocco has been able to achieve a very important level of decentralization, as evidenced by the operation of delegation of prerogatives to municipal, provincial and regional authorities, which work to achieve sustained development to meet the needs of the local population, he noted.

In this line, he expressed his country’s willingness to take advantage of the Moroccan experience, for a better implementation of the decentralization policy in Burundi.

Moreover, the President of the Burundian Senate recalled that the Republic of Burundi and the Kingdom of Morocco are linked by strong relations of cooperation, friendship and brotherhood.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Councillors, Enaam Mayara, stressed that the visit of the Speaker of the Burundian Senate in Laayoune is part of strengthening bilateral relations and the memorandum of understanding signed between the legislative institution and the Senate of Burundi.

This visit allowed the Speaker of the Burundian Senate to see the development efforts made in the region under the new development model of the southern provinces, launched by HM King Mohammed VI, added Mayara, recalling that the Sovereign has emphasized in his speech on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Green March, on the level of achievement of development projects in these provinces.

This visit also reflects the reality of socio-economic development in the southern provinces of the Kingdom, stressed Mayara, adding that this effort is a source of pride and satisfaction for the inhabitants of the Moroccan Sahara.

Accompanied by the Consul General of the Republic of Burundi, Ndagijimana Benjamin, the members of the Burundian parliamentary delegation went to the major projects completed and those under construction to learn about the quality of educational, sports, cultural and socio-economic infrastructure and health as part of the development model of the southern provinces.
