Porto Inglês, Oct 27 (Inforpress) – The island of Maio was distinguished as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, almost two years ago, but after all that time, the management committee and an awareness-raising action program have not yet been installed.
Faced with this fact, Mayor Miguel Rosa said that a tripartite meeting scheduled between the city hall of Maio, the city halls of the island of Fogo and the National Directorate for the Environment, on the commemoration of the two years of this distinction, to analyze the different aspects related to the subject.
“Right now there is another discussion that has to do with action plans. It is worth remembering that the Biosphere reserve is Maio and Fogo, and normally the work also has to be arranged, through the National Directorate for the Environment, so we will have a tripartite meeting in the coming days”, he informed.
Miguel Rosa guaranteed, on the other hand, that the city council has been doing its role to maintain the seal of the Unesco Biosphere reserve, counting on partnerships with some organizations.
