Parliament: 2016 General State Account approved – opposition votes abstention

Praia, Jan 11 (Inforpress) – The parliament approved this Thursday the general account of the State of 2016, with favorable votes from the Movement for Democracy (MpD, ruling party), with the PAICV and UCID (opposition parties) voting abstention.
In his explanation of vote, the MP from the African Party of Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV), José Gomes da Veiga, explained that his workbench voted abstention, considering that what was implemented in the budget did not contribute to improving the lives of Cabo Verdeans.
The MP from the Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID), João Santos Luís, explained that the abstention was due to the lack of clarification to the doubts raised during the discussions.
Among these doubts are the destination given to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) community tax in the amount of 289 million escudos in 2016, the reason for not including the collected revenues and some health structures and the tax debt.
The accounts were approved with a favorable vote by the MpD. MP Alcides de Pina pointed out that 2016 was an exceptional year, which ended a difficult period, marked by a high level of indebtedness, unemployment and public deficit, serious obstacles in the health, education and security of Cabo Verdeans.
