GBARNGA, April 28 (LINA) -The media sector in Liberia gets another boost as the Ministry of Labor (MOL) has awarded a full master degree scholarship to the sector in the area of agriculture.
Awarding the scholarship to a local community radio in Gbarnga recently, Labor Minister Cllr. Charles H. Gibson said in order to improve the sector in the country journalists must specialize in various fields of study, including agriculture.
Cllr. Gibson pointed out that the government is concerned about empowering the media sector, and as such a slot for master degree study in Geneva was awarded to Kwatekeh Community Radio in Gbarnga in appreciation of its outstanding contributions to national development.
He admonished journalists in the country to specialize, noting that in other countries journalists specialize in various fields, including politics, agriculture, economics and medicine, to be able to report in-depth information about a specific profession.
Minister Gibson added that as a means of empowering the media, including community radios in Liberia, contracts must be given to them.
He then announced that Kwatekeh Community Radio will shortly be awarded a US$4,000 contract in order to promote anti-human trafficking in the country.
It can be recalled that Labor Minister Gibson recently urged labor unions in the country to play robust roles in ongoing strides to promote the condition of services across the public and private sectors.
In response to the gesture, Kwatekeh Community Radio Chief Executive Officer and state radio Bong County Correspondent, Papa Morris, lauded the government for helping to promote the media sector in the country.
