The Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA), on Friday 27th May, 2022, concluded a Sports Seminar for sports journalists from all the African News Agencies in the continent. FAAPA, been the hub for all the agencies in Africa, annually invites journalist from the 25 member countries to participate in different sessions ranging from political reporting, women in journalism, editorial, Management, administration et al.
The Seminar commenced on Monday 23rd May, 2022 in Rabat, Morocco at the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) Conference Hall in Rabat. The Secretary General of FAAPA, Mohamed Anis in his speech said “This training seminar, is the first in the history of the organization, and it is part of FAAPA’s action plan for 2022, which was approved by the Executive Council of the Pan-African Federation in November last year at a meeting held in Dakar, Senegal.
Speaking on the objectives of the seminar, Mr Anis said is to build the capacity of sports journalists for better handling of issues related to the coverages of major national, regional and international sports events, promoting the performance and productivity of sports journalists in the coverage and handling of sports information, to promote the exchange of experiences and to consolidate the capacities of journalists to produce innovative contents in the field of sports information, while respecting the principles of professional ethics and journalistic deontology.
FAAPA was created in 2014 and the maiden edition of seminars was held in 2015. Since the establishment of FAAPA, the body has invited over 300 journalists and administrators from various agencies in Africa to participate in different seminars.
