MONROVIA, Aug. 17 (LINA) – President George Manneh Weah has called on Liberians in District #8, Montserrado County, to continue to hold together in building Liberia, urging them to refrain from acts that undermine the progress of the nation.
“War is not good, look at Russia and Ukraine war. It has made it difficult for commodities to come to Africa,” President Weah said in reference.
“Without peace,” said President Weah, “it is difficult to develop,” adding; “and I want to thank you for keeping our peace. We are proud of you all for maintaining the peace of Liberia.’
President Weah made the comments when he toured Montserrado County District #8 on Tuesday as part of his official nationwide County Tour which started back in 2021.
President Weah told the residents of District #8 that the six years mandate which they give him is an indication of their trust and commitment to the Congress of Democratic Change (CDC) and he has proven over the years that he will not let the people down.
“The records are clear, our first four years in our constitutional six years have proven that when given the chance for another six years you will see more things happening in this country,” he assured.
He added: “You can trust me to do the best for you and I know that you can trust me because you did it before and you can do it again.”
In his oration, the Liberian leader remained consistent in the advocacy for peace as he cited: “Let’s prioritize peace in our country because without peace building our walls will be difficult, we need peace to achieve all of our desires for this nation.”
Meanwhile, President Weah has emphasized his commitment to erecting more development projects for the people of Montserrado County as well as Liberia at large.
Earlier, during his tour of Montserrado County District #9, President Weah assured the residents of his urge to upgrade the educational infrastructure in their community.
Speaking at the Don Bosco Youth Center in New Matadi, the Liberian leader promised to work alongside with the Education Ministry to add additional flavors to the district’s education system, mainly through infrastructures.
Reminding the residents of the district, President Weah indicated that he used to live in the Lakpazee Community when he had just returned from Cameroon and, as such, there is no way he will leave the people of Lakpazee Community out of his many developments.
At the same time, President Weah pledged to construct a decent market structure in the Lakpazee Community as part of his promise to better the living condition of the people of District #9.
« Your gave us swamp land and you know it’s very hard to build on swamp land, but nevertheless I heard your presented a second land and I can guarantee that we will build the market, » he emphasized.
According to President Weah, his desire to develop Montserrado County did not start when he was made president.
« I started developing Montserrado County when I was Senator and was serving as the Montserrado County Caucus Chairman », he noted.
He also added that most of the developments seen within the 17 Districts of Montserrado County today happened when he was Chairman of the County’s Caucus, adding that he made sure that the County Development Funds went to projects that fostered development.
« When I was chairman, we made sure that in the lawmakers representing their communities had one or two projects, because I knew one day someone will point finger that when George Weah was Montserrado Caucus Chairman what did he do to better the living condition of the people, » he noted.
Dr. Weah urged residents to exercise more patience as his government is working bit-by-bit to develop the lot of Liberians.
The Liberian leader lauded the people of District #9 for believing in his government and assured them that he will continue to work for the Liberian people.
