Ambainu (W/R), April 29, GNA-In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has set up a Food Bank at Ambainu where over 1,000 needy people are supplied with food items daily.

The beneficiaries are provided with bags of rice, frytol oil, tomatoes, canned fish, soft drinks, and provisions among others.

The humanitarian gesture forms part of the MP’s 2016 campaign pledge to provide food daily to the low-income families, senior citizens, the sick, victims of disaster, pandemics, and the vulnerable.

Mr Kofi Buah also donated a mobile van for the distribution of food items to the doorsteps of beneficiaries.

The food bank facility is being administered by an eleven-member non-partisan committee made up of clergy, traditional rulers, the District Assembly, and the Muslim community.

Speaking to newsmen, the MP said the move was borne out of the desire to empower the communities and receive donations to support the less privileged in the District.

Mr Buah said the 2016 statistical service reported that 1.5 million people in Ghana go to bed with empty stomachs every day, adding that the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation.

He however, expressed optimism that the food bank can feed his constituents to beat hunger in these trying times.

The MP said the project has no political colour and tasked the committee to work hard to sustain the programme.

Mr.Buah said a food mobile van which was outdoored at the function, would move from town to town to feed the elderly and children.

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle, Mr Kwasi Bonzoh hailed the MP for the noble initiative.

He donated an amount of GHc 1,000.00 as his contribution to sustain the project.

The DCE appealed to individuals, organizations, and philanthropists to donate generously towards the project.

Some individuals who graced the occasion also donated cash, cheques, and food items to the management of the project.
