Accra, Aug. 28, GNA – Mr Abeaku Okai, the Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Branded Foundation, has called on parents to use their limited resources to educate their children as they form the future manpower-base of the country.
He said it was important the children learnt the history, traditions and culture of Africa to serve as their legacies, which no one could take from them.
Mr Okai was speaking at the first ever International Africa Children’s Festival the Foundation organised for children in Senya Bereku.
It was on the theme: « Improving and Rebranding the Next Generation with Africa’s Culture and Traditional Values. »
The children had the opportunity to socialise, participate in quiz competitions, ate and danced to good music.
Earlier, the children were taken on a two-hour float through the streets of Senya Bereku, as they shared ice cream and biscuits to the elderly and other children who could not join them.
Mr Okai said children were assets to the nation and there was the need to tap their talents and capabilities for development.
« I believe that classroom education sharpens us, helps us to think critically but it is about time we impact our children with our traditional values as well, help them to identify their talents and use them, since that is the easiest way to compete in the world, » he said.
He said though Africa had succeeded in its liberation struggles of human rights violations, wars and injustices, more remained to be done in terms of hunger and malnutrition to enable the children to live healthy lives.
Mr Okai called on the Government to invest in the youth to unearth their talents to become productive citizens of the nation.
Some parents who graced the occasion commended the organisers for the festival and expressed the hope that more of such festivals would be organised annually to expose the children to traditions and culture.
