Accra , Aug. 9, GNA – The Awompi Royal Family, the Kingmakers of the Duayaw-Nkwanta Traditional Area, has refuted the alleged destoolment of Nana Mfodwaa Birago, the Paramount Queen of Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
The Kingmakers insisted that Nana Birago remained the Queen of the Traditional area and advised the chiefs and people, both home and abroad to accord her the necessary recognition and dignity as required by the Duayaw-Nkwanta stool.
At a news conference on Wednesday at Duayaw-Nkwanta, Capital of the Tano North Municipality, the Awompi Family described the purported destoolment of the Queen by some members of the Duayaw-Nkwanta Traditional Council as uncustomary.
Nana Owoahene Acheampong, the spokesman for the Awompi Royal Family reminded the public that Nana Birago was installed and outdoor as the Duayaw-Nkwanta Paramount Queen in 2006 and she had remained as such since that time.
Flanked by Nana Appiah Hene, Family Head and other key members of the Royal Family, including Nana Kwabena Osei, Nana Antwi Duah, Nana Ama Foriwaa and Nana Adwoa Nasanta, the spokesman said the Awompi clan had the prerogative to elect and supervise the installation of a chief or queen in the area.
« We are therefore stating categorically without reservations and fear of contradiction that Nana Birago remained the Paramount Queen of Duayaw-Nkwanta Traditional Area », Nana Acheampong emphasised.
