MONROVIA, Jan. 20 (LINA) – The Assistant Minister For Communal Farming at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ayouba L. Fofana, has urged young Liberians to disengage from making defamatory statements on social media because such act has the propensity to damage their future.
According to Fofana, some young Liberians are using social media to provide wrong information, make threatening statements against their country and national leaders, something he described as unpatriotic.
He made the statement over the weekend at the official dedication ceremony of the headquarters of the Veterans Bureau in Doe Community, a community-based youth organization involved in the propagation and contribution to social and political issues in Liberia.
Min. Fofana also called on Liberian youth to be cognizant of the fact that those negative attitudes against the state and people have the tendency to deny them of opportunities in the future.
“You need to be reminded that one day because of your negative propaganda to satisfy another person’s political desire against the state and the Liberian people will make you to miss good opportunities,” Fafana said.
He added: “If you have problem with any government official or the governance structure, there are better channels to use to express it instead of defamation or making negative statements that could create instability and undermine our peace.”
For his part, the Deputy Managing Director of the National Transit Authority (NTA), Myers Beteah, appreciated members of the Veterans Bureau in Doe Community for constructing a mini-headquarters to propagate political issues in Liberia.
“Let me say to the members of the Veterans Bureau in Doe Community that you are not only veterans in your community, but the district and the entire Montserrado County at large. Continue to persevere because perseverance is the key to success,” Beteah said.
He noted that it is not time to complain unnecessarily and not the time for youths to be misled to do things that will paint a negative image of Liberia, adding that “We need to support our President so that Liberia can be compared to other neighboring countries in terms of development.”
