MPS reconstructs Tema Community Three Beach Road

  14 Décembre      57        Société (45223),

Tema,Dec14, GNA – Mr Kwasi Amoako Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways has cut the sod for the reconstruction of the Tema Community Three beach road junction which will alleviate road transport difficulties in the harbour enclave.

The project, which is being undertaken by the China Harbour and Engineering Company, the Chinese Construction giants, will cost the Meridian Port Services (MPS) forty million cedis as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Amoako Atta encouraged corporate institutions and organisations to partner and support government in the delivery of road transport infrastructure through various forms of corporate social responsibility interventions as displayed by MPS.

According to him, the projects marked the first phase of the Tema arterial project and it was in line with government’s vision of improving the road network in the Tema Metropolis.

« The second phase will involve the construction of the Tema Hospital and Meridian Road all the way to the Ashiaman intersection and linking the Accra-Tema Motorway. Upon completion of these roads, the increased traffic to and from the new port will experience less delays, » he said.

He appealed to communities which would be affected by the construction work to cooperate with the contractors while admonishing the road builders not to take the communities for granted and that they should create the necessary temporary roads and appropriate signage to mitigate inconveniences.

Mr Mohamed Samara, Chief Executive Officer, MPS, explained that the project consisted of the creation of a new roundabout and four slip roads within each quadrant of the roundabout to reduce the number of vehicles approaching the roundabout.

« There would be upgraded access and lanes to the north, east and western approaches and will create a new access at gate railway cross to the New Port. It is expected to be completed by the end of June 2019, in time before the opening of the expanded port, » he said.
