NIA to open additional registration points

  19 Février      51        Société (45213),

Accra, Feb.19, GNA—The National Identification Authority (NIA) says it will open additional registration points for the Ghana card from Monday, February 21, 2022 to Tuesday, March 31, 2022.

The points will be at the Accra Sports Stadium; El-wak Sports Stadium (Premium Centre), Accra; Kumasi Sports Stadium; Ghana National Fire Service (Regional Office), Cape Coast and the Tamale Sports Stadium.

A statement signed by Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu, Acting Head, Corporate Affairs and copied the Ghana News Agency, said the registration points would be opened from 0800 hours to 1700 hours from Monday to Friday, and would operate alongside NIA’s 276 District and 16 Regional offices, and the Premium Registration Centre at the Headquarters.

It said the intervention had been instituted in response to growing numbers of Ghanaians thronging NIA’s offices nationwide to register for the Ghana Card, particularly, as the deadline for Sim-Card re-registration approached.

The statement reminded the public that household and institutional registration remained open.

It said apart from the El-wak Sports Stadium, which would operate as a Premium Centre, registration at all the other locations would be free.

The statement said persons who had already registered but had not received their cards were to contact their respective district offices to be issued with their cards and should not attempt to register again as that constituted an offence punishable by law.

It reminded all prospective applicants that the registration requirements as provided by law remained as follows:

a) An original copy of a Birth Certificate; or

b) An original copy of a valid Passport; or

c) An original copy of a valid Certificate of Acquired Citizenship

The statement said where an applicant did not possess any of the documents specified above, a relative of the applicant who had already registered and issued a Ghana card could vouch for the applicant under oath.

It said where the applicant had no known relatives, two persons aged 18 years and above and known to the applicant and who had both registered and been issued with Ghana cards could vouch for the applicant under oath.

The statement said in that instance, the two persons qualified to vouch for an applicant must either be a practicing or retired professional teacher (including principals, headmasters and headteachers) or a Gazetted Chief.

It said the person must also be a practicing or retired Magistrate or Judge; a licensed professional (a Medical Doctor, a Nurse, a Lawyer, an Accountant, an Engineer, an Architect); a serving or retired Civil Servant.

The statement said he or she must be a serving or retired Public Servant; a serving or retired Clergyman; an Imam; a serving or retired Catechist; a serving or retired member of the Security Services including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Bureau of National Investigations, Customs, Excise and Preventive Service of the Ghana Revenue Authority and National Security.

It said the person must also be a current or past Member of Parliament; a current or past Assemblyman; a current or past member of a Unit Committee.

The statement said all applicants were expected to come along with their residence’s Ghana Post Digital Address.
