Wa, Nov. 8, GNA – The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) in the Upper West Region, will start this year’s Road Safety Awareness Week on 10th November as part of a nationwide campaign to remind road users about critical safety matters.
The campaign seeks to address safety issues at policy, implementation and road user levels, as the 2018 crusade looks deep into vulnerability of the passenger and pedestrian including children.
The Upper West Regional Manager of NRSC, Mr Mohammed Abdul-Samad, said in statement to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, that the Commission was targeting to help minimise vulnerability to road traffic crashes.
« We are looking at…what policymakers, drivers, transport operators and pedestrians and passengers can do to help minimise their vulnerability to road traffic crashes, » he said, « especially in the crash prone months of November and December ».
The Campaign is anchored on the theme: « Empowering passenger and pedestrian to demand road safety ».
It is supported by the slogan: « Be your boss, be informed, observe, and speak up and save lives ».
« The objective of the weeklong event is to achieve an increased awareness of road safety issues in Ghana and media engagement to discuss them among others, » Mr Abdul-Samad said.
Every third week of November is observed as the road safety awareness week.
