Monrovia, Feb. 27 (LINA) –The Senior Education Specialist at the World Bank, Oni R. Stover, has pledged the bank’s support and commitment towards the improvement of the education sector of Liberia.
Stover stated that Liberia getting the best in education, under the US$11.07 million Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Project has targeted six counties in the country.
The World Bank official made the disclosure Tuesday in an interview with journalists at a one-day seminar of County and District Education Officers (CEOs, DEOs) of the 15 political sub-divisions of Liberia held at a local hotel in Sinkor, Monrovia.
According to her, the project, which started in 2018, will last until 2022 in Rivercess, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee and Bomi counties to provide quality education for Liberian children.
Stover stressed that the project development objectives are intended to improve equitable access to early childhood education, teacher quality in early childhood education and primary education in targeted, disadvantaged counties as well as strengthen national school accountability system.
She maintained that the World Bank remains committed to supporting the government’s priority in education under the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).
Meanwhile, the Project Coordinator of the GPE, Joe K. Gbasakollie, has said the project is also intended to provide quality education based on assessment of schools in the six counties.
Gbasakollie stated that the CEOs and DEOs will be trained to collect data of schools within the counties and districts to improve the quality of learning.
He indicated that electronic tablets would be used to collect and store data which will be used to inform the development of the school system in these counties.
Gbasakollie pointed out that capacity-building for CEOs and DEOs has been prioritized under the project, saying that it will go a long way to transform the Liberia education sector.
