Accra, Nov. 06, GNA – Mrs. Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has called for concerted efforts to promote environmental cleanliness in the Municipality.
She said waste management and environmental cleanliness remained a shared and collective responsibility, and appealed to corporate bodies and institutions to play their part in making the city clean to avoid the outbreak of communicable diseases.
Mrs Kumi-Richardson made the call when she toured some waste dumping sites in the Municipality. She was accompanied by personnel of Zoom Lion, a waste management and sanitation firm.
She took opportunity of the tour to address and sensitize some communities in the Municipality on the need to keep their surrounding cleans and promote personal hygiene.
Mrs Kumi-Richardson expressed disgust over indiscriminate dumping of plastic waste in the Municipality and advised residents to change their behaviour.
She said it was an offence to dump waste haphazardly and litter on the street, saying offenders would be prosecuted.
The MCE expressed worry that though the Assembly was doing all things to ensure that Sunyani maintained its status as the cleanest city in Ghana, individuals, corporate bodies and the general public had a role to play.
Mrs Kumi-Richardson advised management of Zoomlion to ensure that waste containers placed at vantage points were evacuated when they became full.
The visit took the MCE to waste dumping sites at Abesim, Asufufu, Newtown, Penkwase and New Dormaa, Sunyani Area Four, Nana Bosoma Market, Doctors Village, Abuja Fish Pound, Baakoniable Zongo and Sunyani Magazine.
