Sixteen farming communities in Okere have been hooked onto the national grid

Accra, May 09, GNA- Mr Daniel Kwaku Botwe the Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere, has commissioned electricity to 16 farming communities comprising about 500 households in the Okere district of the Eastern Region.
The beneficiary communities were Aboma /Amrahyia, Nsuta, Aboa, Nanabanyin, Asifaw North and South, Awukugua-Sanfo, Gatogo, Agyeibea, Gbemimu, Otareso, Abenawia, Adukrom-Nyensi, Awukugua-Nyensi, Takase, Obuobi – Akura and Krutiase.
Mr Dan Botwe addressing the people at separate durbars organized by the chiefs of the various communities said government was bent on providing the basic needs of every community in the country to help improve their livelihoods.
He said social amenities such as road network, water and electricity and support for farmers to improve their economic activities were the necessary developmental projects that communities needed to thrive, hence, the intensification of the rural electrification project and construction of road networks in the Okere and other parts of the country.
The MP and Minister for Regional-reorganization and Development said it was the intention of President that every Ghanaian benefited from the national resources and would not be selective in dealing with the people as far as their welfare was concerned.
He thanked the chiefs and people of Okere for their unparalleled support offered him and the government and urged them to take advantage of all the developmental projects being rolled out to improve upon their wellbeing.
It was all joy, when Mr Botwe and the Okere District Chief Executive, Mr Daniel Kenneth switched on the lights for the first time in the beneficiary communities, the people could not hide their joy when the women sang and dance amid showering of praises on the government.

The DCE on his part said the NPP government had been faithful with the people of Okere by creating the district and the massive developmental projects that have been initiated within a year that the district was inaugurated.
He commended the MP for his abled leadership and commitment towards the welfare of the people of Okere through the numerous developmental projects that he had initiated.
The acting Nifahene of the Akuapem Traditional Area and chief of Awukugua, Nana Opese Kunadu, lauded government for the electricity and the construction of road networks in the area, urge the people to do away with politics and support the government to move the nation forward.
The Eastern Regional Marketing Manager of the Power Distribution Services (PDS), Mr Abraham Lincoln said government had expended Gh1, 800 on each household for it to get the electricity and meters for free, however, the power consumption was not free.
He urged them to ensure that they paid their bills promptly and not to accumulate, which would be difficult to pay, adding that, “your MP has put in tireless effort to get you the electricity and so don’t burden him further with the payment of bills”.
