UHAS Council scores treble for strong female appointments into leadership

Ho, June 4, GNA-The Governing Council of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) at its special meeting has okayed the appointment of three females to assume leadership of vacant positions at the University.

Ms Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, who assumes duty as the incoming Registrar, replaces retiring Dr Cynthia Sena Kpeglo with Mrs Ruth Xoladem Ayittey, Senior Architect as the incoming Director of Works and Physical Development, who takes over from Dr William Vidogah.

The appointment of the trio takes effect from August 1, 2022, for a four-year (renewable) term, according to Mrs. Maria Gwira, Director of Public Affairs of UHAS.

Professor Aziato was the Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Ghana and accumulated over 20 years as a nurse.

She had her first degree in nursing and psychology in 2001 and in 2006, she graduated with an MPhil in Nursing from the University of Ghana. She also has a specialty certificate in Oncology Nursing from the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Canada and completed in 2006. Subsequently she graduated with a PhD in Nursing from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa in 2013.

She holds both local and international positions in nursing organisations such as Sigma Theta Tau, serving on a few boards and committees and external examiner for a few Universities in Ghana and abroad.

She has published in more than 39 credible international peer-reviewed journals and is a reviewer for 12 credible journals spanning 2012 to date. Her research interests span across pain management, cancer, and surgical nursing.

She has advanced skills in qualitative research and curriculum development. She is interested in training and mentoring young nurses and students to enhance their skills and independence and bears professional membership and affiliations to 10 establishments.

Ms Amankwaa Opuni is a Senior Assistant Registrar, Human Resource, University of Health, and Allied Sciences, who holds a Bachelor of Education degree, Management and Secretarial Option, from the University of Education, Winneba, and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Ghana.

As an Assistant Registrar, Human Resource, she is, under the oversight of the Registrar, and Head of the Human Resource Officer responsible for Recruitment, Selection and Separation as well as Performance, Education and Training of Senior Members (Academic and Non-Academic) of the University.

Prior to her transfer to the Human Resource Unit, Ms. Opuni was the Assistant Registrar in the Registrar’s Office from September 2012 to January 2017.

She was among the core pioneer Senior Administrative and Professional Staff recruited to assist Management put systems and structures in place for the recruitment of staff and admission of students for the University in 2012.

As part of her responsibilities, Ms Opuni served on some sub-committees and ad-hoc committees of the University Council and other Committees of the Academic Board.

She is a Member of the Volta Regional Advisory Council of the National Media Commission, Patron of Camfed Ghana (UHAS Scholars) and a member of the Peace Council, Volta Region.

Mrs. Ruth Xoladem Ayittey is currently a Senior Architect at UHAS.

She comes with over 20 years of experience, of which the last six and half have been in Senior Member positions at UHAS.

She has degrees in Design, Architecture and Construction Management, with advanced technical competencies in the fields of Architecture, Construction, Procurement and Project Management, including expertise in top industry software.

She also chairs or serves on numerous University committees and is a member of the Architects’ Registration Council, the Ghana Institute of Architects, and Project Management Institute.
