14 sporting disciplines set to begin operations

Accra, June 1, GNA – The Ministry of Youth and Sports has issued directives on the list sporting disciplines that can resume operations in the fight against COVID 19.

A statement from the Ministry said, with the exception of sports events, competitions or games (i.e., No spectator or fans), individual, non-contact sports can resume.

The list of sporting disciplines that can resume operations includes; Athletics, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Golf, Powerlifting, Weightlifting, Cycling, Draughts, and Para Sports (individual noncontact para-sports).

The rest are; Rowing and Canoeing, Baseball and softball, Horseracing, and individuals exercising within our stadiums.

The statement said, contact sports including football, hockey, and volley remain suspended till July 31, 2020.

The President, has since March suspended all sporting activities follow the COVID 19 pandemic.

However, an address by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo on Sunday, May 31, announced the easing of restrictions hence the resumption of some sporting disciplines.
