GPL Week 31: Goal King race heats up, Sharks are relegated

  30 Mai      32        Sport (7849),

Accra, May 30, GNA- With a few matches to end the season, the goal king race is getting keener with Franck Mbella Etouga and Yaw Annor vying for the coveted golden boot.

Etouga was on the scoresheet when Asante Kotoko recorded a 2-0 victory against Medeama SC at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa on Sunday.

This takes Etouga’s tally to 20 goals for the season and becomes the first player to reach that milestone of 20 goals since 2013, while Ashantigold’s Yaw Annor is lurking around him with 19 goals.

If they could get a point from the match against AshantiGold SC on Thursday, then Kotoko could wrap up their 25th league title with three games to spare.

Yaw Annor bagged a brace in yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Accra Lions at the Len Clay Sports Stadium.

AshantiGold, with a point, stay 10th on the league table, while Accra Lions are gradually edging towards safety as they sit 12th on the league table.

Elmina Sharks, on the other hand, were officially confirmed relegated, after they were thumped 3-0 by Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.

Enock Morrison scored in second-half added time as King Faisal rescued a point on home turf against Great Olympics at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Ibrahim Sulley opened the scoring for the away side in the first half, but Morrison pulled parity for King Faisal, who moved three points clear of the relegation zone.

Aduana Stars who have drawn the last four matches heading to week 31, were once again held to a goalless draw game by Dreams FC, and likewise, Legon Cities, who were also held to a 1-1 draw by Bibiani Gold Stars.

WAFA’s survival chances were dealt a huge blow after they were held by Bechem United in a 1-1 draw at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope.

Hearts of Oak would face Karela later on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
