Tema June 29, GNA—The Founder of 2P Waves Foundation has indicated the exceptional nature of donated blood because of its ability to save lives and enhance the health delivery of a nation.

Mrs. Patience George says, “You can bear with me, that there is no manufacturing company that makes blood; and that it’s a natural gift from God. Whatever we’ve been donating as charity organizations, we used money in buying them but not blood. That is why blood donation is a unique exercise.”

Mrs. George made this observation at the premises of Obonu FM where 2P Waves Foundation, a charitable institution, organized a blood donation programme to raise 36 pints of blood for the National Blood Bank.

Mrs. George urged the public to be confident in their ability of the blood bank officials to put their donated blood to good use.

She added that, “There is a perception out there that if you donate blood, it is only God who knows what they would use the blood for. What I can tell everybody is that let’s make it a point to donate blood in every passing year. Let’s all come out to donate blood to save that particular soul somewhere who needs our blood.”

She indicated that she was motivated to organize blood donation exercise because her mother fell sick and was saved because the National Blood Bank had reserves at the time she needed it, “And so we decided to help the blood bank get as much blood as possible to save more lives.”

Mr. Purushottam Shirodkah, Co-Founder of 2P Waves Foundation, admonished Ghanaians to make it a responsibility to donate blood “because there are always blood shortages all over the world especially in Ghana.”

He said currently, Ghana required 150 pints of blood a day, but there was not enough blood to meet that demand.

The National Blood Organizer for the National Blood Donors Association (NABDAG), Mr. Edward Barnor, recounted the benefit one got from donating blood by saying, “You get free medical screening—your HB is checked free of charge, your BP is checked, your pulse is checked. You are screened for Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis and your blood group.”

Mr. Barnor, who was the highest blood donor in Ghana with 83 donations, said apart from these benefits, blood was restored to the donor within 24 hours anytime one donated blood because »the old blood goes out of the system and a new one comes in, so hardly would you fall sick. »

He informed that the only thing a donor had to do in need of blood transfusion was to show his or her donor card to the hospital and blood would be given free of charge.

He said currently, he could confirm that there was no blood in the blood bank, so he was grateful to 2 P Waves for organizing the blood donation.

He appealed to churches and corporate organizations to emulate the example of 2P Waves and help stock the national blood bank.

Mr. Isaac Teye Oyeade, a farmer who came all the way from Ningo to donate, said he was happy to have taken part in the exercise because “if it did not help him, it would help somebody tomorrow,” and urged Ghanaians to volunteer when ever an opportunity came.

2P Waves Foundation undertakes charitable ventures to put smiles on the faces of the underdeprived in society.

The foundation which has been in existence for two years, has already assisted foster homes, a leprosarium, and orphanages with donations.
