Accra, July 03, GNA- Madam Abigail Dede Anani, Executive Director and Founder, OYE Foundation, an NGO focused on the welfare of children in vulnerable communities through education, says educating vulnerable Children will enhance the country’s socioeconomic development.
She called for the creation and implementation of innovative and sustainable developmental programmes and projects that could bring change to the communities through collaborations and support from government, corporate organisations, individuals, and philanthropic groups.
Madam Anani in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Saturday said her outfit had in the last few years implemented several educational intervention programmes in selected rural public schools in line with government and other stakeholders’ efforts in the education sector to achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal four (4).
She said the implementation of the foundation’s flagship reading programme, “Read 4Life Initiative’’ had impacted over 2,000 basic school children for the last 3 years.
The Executive Director of the Foundation said the initiative would continue to reduce vulnerability, build resilience among communities, strengthen school systems, as well as significantly improve the quality of education for children.
She said the programme would support rural public schools and by extension the country to achieve the quality education in the country.
The foundation is currently working with 7 rural public schools located in the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra region and over 50 schools in the Eastern and Volta regions which required similar intervention.
She added that funding limitation had hindered their support from reaching such schools and called on relevant stakeholders for support.
Madam Anani said they were supporting a total of 1,500 children in 10 schools within selected rural public schools whilst over 10, 000 other children were also on standby and that extending the intervention to these schools which were in the remote and deprived districts across Ghana.
She said over 500 girls in Ten public schools were currently benefiting from the Foundation’s mentorship program aimed at nurturing young girls into responsible and accomplished women in future.
Madam Anani said they sought to empower young girls to reach their full potential both academically and general wellbeing.
She said the Foundation also introduced Home School Programme in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic which had impacted over 800 children in the various communities and also trained learning facilitators which contributed greatly in the programme.
Madam Anani said their effective programmes in the selected schools had led to an increment in the school retention rate as well as enhancement in teacher knowledge.
She said the Foundation was committed to making sure the poor and vulnerable in the society had better education to help boost Ghana’s development.
