Evelyn Andoh, 63, wins ultimate prize for the Gold in the Oil Awards

Takoradi, June 27, GNA- Madam Evelyn Andoh, a 63-year farmer from Wassa Akutuase in the Wassa East District has been crowned the Queen of the « Gold in the Soil Award » held in Takoradi in the Western Region.

She took home a tricycle, three Knapsack sprayers, 20 boxes of fertilizers, six Wellington booths, three Lamps, T-shirt, 15 packs of Maize seeds, 20 bottles of weedicide, a plaque and Certificate.

The award scheme, targeted at women was organised by Agrihouse Initiative Foundation, an Agriculture centered non-governmental organisation working to promote women interest in the agricultural sector.

Mr  Yaw Frimpong Addo, the Deputy Minister for Agriculture noted how women continued to play key roles in the production chain and the need for them to be motivated to do more for the country.

He said the Planting for Food and Jobs initiatives and other similar ones had seen massive patronage and results due to the active participation of women.

Mr Addo was therefore happy that the contributions of women had been recognised and given a boost by the Agrihouse.

Other winners included Madam Eli Akyere, Passion for Farm Award; She- Innovates award to Matcom Company; Climate Smart Women Project Award to Madam Mary Perpetua Kwakuyi and the Outstanding Woman in Extension Services Award went to Ms. Eva Adu.

The Star Woman Agripreneur Award went to  Ms Rosemond Afua Afful with the Royal Agro Award going to, Ms Ekua Badu, Ms Abena Asantewaa won the Diamond in the Rough Award while, the Food to Feed Awards went to  Ms Edna Ama Mensah.

The Change Champion Award was taken by Ms Marian Ofori Twumasi, while Lady of the Region Export Award went to Ms Georgina Filson with She-operates went to Ms. Mary Mensah.

Agrihouse also rewarded development partners such as Canada and gave the Princess Carla Award to Ms Monica Nwiah.

The organisation also honoured some physically challenged individuals who defying all odds to work in that space
