Ghana’s First Lady hosts American First Lady

Accra, Oct 02, GNA – First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday hosted her American counterpart, Mrs. Melania Trump who is in Ghana at the start of her solo trip that will see her visit four African countries.

As part of her five-day first ever African tour, Mrs Trump would also make planned stops in Malawi, Kenya and Egypt.

Along with Ghana’s First Lady and some senior government officials, including Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botcwey, Foreign Affairs Minister, Mrs Trump was welcomed by a group of school children, who waved flags amidst a colourful cultural display at the Kotoka International Airport.

Her tour to Ghana begun with a trip to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in Accra, where she highlighted her interest in child welfare, and distributed gifts of teddy bears wrapped in baby blankets with her « Be Best » slogan, which she had chosen as the theme of her work as a first lady.

Mrs Trump’s trip would focus on maternal and newborn care in hospitals, education for children, the deep culture and history woven into each African country, and how the United States is supporting each country on its journey to self-reliance.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo later held closed door discussions with Mrs Trump at the Presidential Palace, in the Jubilee House.

She has visited the Emintsimadze Palace and embarked on a private tour of the Cape Coast Castle in the Central Region.
Mrs Trump is expected to leave Ghana on, Thursday, October 4 to Malawi.
